Storytelling and its Many Platforms

April 26, 2025June 2, 2025

I think it’s amazing how we as humans encounter a story. It’s not just passively receiving facts, we actively engage with narratives, and put them into what we understand of the world. It’s unbelievable when you think about it, we don’t just remember plot points, we connect with characters, predict outcomes, and find relatable facts to our own lives. I think this kind of human encounter helps the processing of information from the story, making it more memorable and impactful. Our brains are wired for stories.

Creativity has played a role in human development, because to create is to be human. Creativity has always played a role in driving curiosity. Driving people to explore themselves, new ideas, and new skills. Imaginative thinking that creates connections between things that are seemingly unrelated.
There are so many ways to let your curiosity out, such as, movement and dance or photography. I personally like hands-on creation, like, crochet or graphic designing.

These ways to be creative are ways to explore yourself, you likes, your dislikes, and new skills.

When you’re in the business of media you get to know storytelling very well, even see others media and stories that motivate you to do. One example of Transmedia Marketing that I can think of off the top of my head (besides Harry Potter) is Pokemon. Pokemon has been around since I was a kid and it started off as a Transmedia franchise.
Transmedia allows fans to choose their preferred form of engagement, collecting cards, video games, animated series, etc. If I use this as the definition of Transmedia, then Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” was what motivated me. To be honest I think the Spider-Man franchise in general is a glorious Transmedia example. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was different though. The different genres of animation and the surpassing of so many peoples expectations is what got me to go “yeah, I wanna create.”
I hope to use this as a base for my own personal accomplishments and branding. To connect and motivate people from my own Transmedia narrative and plan would be the ideal for any creator.
