- Premise and Purpose
- The Heros Journey is in a cool virtual world where new students (or current students) can find support from fellow students who came before them. This project is to help people get introduced to an extraordinary world.

2. Audience and Market:
This project is for prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, and the Second Life community. This project is a valuable resource for navigating college life. Offering different ways to connect with the colleges culture and resources.
3. Medium, Platform, and Genre
- This project is primarily on an interactive virtual world, called Second Life. A 3D environment where users can participate in The Heros Journey
- The platform is Second Life known for its user-generated content and social interaction. My project will also be available on my WordPress blog for viewing and include narratives
- The genre is Pirate New Steampunk
4. Join a Journey
In this adventure we each have chosen and contributed to each of our steps and areas on the wellness wheel. We want to create a story within this world that can help understand the Heros Journey.
- Introduction: A student who finally got a seagrass tiara (that symbolizes self confidence and inner strength) and a utility belt (the symbolizes preparedness for emotional challenges, having their inner resources, and coping mechanisms to navigate difficult times). These things can be used to navigate tough times when in doubt or fear, a physical manifestation of their belief in themselves.
- Conflict: The Hero is met with an overwhelming situation that causes fear to consume and paralyze them. Life weighs heavy on the Hero and the pressures continue to pursue. Such as team project for midterms or a presentation
- Resolution: The tiara helps them remember all the obstacles they have already overcome. Reaching for a worry stone in the utility belt, using it to ground themselves in the present moment. Using these tools to take the focus off of their fear and channel their energy into their passions. They know that even when faced with future challenges they have the inner strength and the tools to succeed.
5. Narrative Elements
The narrative element really focuses on our achievement awards that are gifted to people that accomplished big milestones. Heros who embark on their experiences and making it an adventure with challenges to overcome and a goal to achieve. Im hoping to create a narrative that supports to emotional and contribution along with my step in the Heros Journey.
6. Users Roles and Point of View:
The users role is to be a Hero in first person Point of View
7. Characters:
The Characters in this story (besides the users and creators) is our animals. Acting as guides, giving wisdom, and overcoming challenges.

8. Structure, Interface, and Rhythm:
Our structure really comes from The Heros Story, its 12 steps and our places on the wellness wheel. We have already built into this and built on to things that were already created before us. It is structured around the central hub from their branching into a rock path that leads to different zones representing each of the 12 steps. There are signs and lights to help with navigation and a gallery we will be working on creating this semester.
9. Storyworld and Settings:
This world exists in a virtual world in Second Life and is a replica of the PNW world we live in today. The setting is a forested coastal area with access to the beach and water sources, along with forested green experience.
10. Overall Appearance, Movement, and Sounds:
The overall feeling could be one of wild beauty with nature sounds that leave a a sense of awe. You can encounter magical caves, encounter virtual wildlife, and enjoy a virtual fire with sounds. The movement of this environment are walking, running, swimming and add a sense to the realism and immersion.
11. User Engagement and Opportunity to share Experiences:
Users can take photos and share links after experiencing this virtual world. Posting to social media
12. End with a Positive Takeaway and Call to Action:
The hero can end their experience and feel like they gained the knowledge to start their Heros Journey. In this case feel more confident about getting an education.
